Places of Interest
While most of the places of interest located in western and central Bhutan are highlighted in the schedules, there are more places of interest, some of which are mentioned below:



Phojoding Trek (3650 m)
Phojoding is located high above Thimphu valley. Trekking to Phojoding is short (about 3 hrs one way) but a rewarding hike, offering panoramic views of Thimphu valley and surrounding. The trekking takes one through winding trails, serene pine forest, leading to Phajoding Monastery, ultimately culminating into combination of nature, culture and tranquility.
Laya Community (3800 m)
Laya is one of the highest permanently inhabited settlements in Bhutan. It is nestled in the highlands of Gasa District and known for its unique culture and stunning landscapes beneath Mount Jomolhari (7326 m). People depend on Yaks for livelihood. Trekking routes to Laya are among the most scenic and culturally rich in the country.
Panbang Camping (300-500 m)
Panbang is located in the subtropical region of Zhemgang District in central Bhutan. It is the gateway to Royal Manas National Park where opportunity to spot rare wildlife such as golden langurs, bison, elephants, rhinoceros, Bengal tigers and hornbill is offered. Visitors can enjoy eco-tourism experiences including rafting on the Manas River, birdwatching and village stays.
Bomdeling Valley (2500-2800)
Bomdeling valley is located about 10 km away from Yangtse valley under Trashiyangtse District in eastern Bhutan. Moderate elevation and peaceful environment make the place an ideal habitat for the rare and endangered Black Necked Crane during winter along the Kholongchu river. It’s an ideal place for camping and homestay.
Merak & Sakteng Community (3500 m & 3000 m)
Merak and Sakteng are two different villages just separated by a mountain called Ngagtungla but historically, culturally and traditionally homogeneous communities. Both are inhabited by nomadic tribe called Brokpa who depends on yak rearing for livelihood. Both can be reached by separate road or through a day’s trekking each. They are highland settlements under Trashigang District in eastern Bhutan.
