Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King – 21-23 February
With so much reverence, loyalty and dedication, the nation celebrates the Birth Anniversary of the Fifth King on 21st February every year throughout the country as a mark of gratitude for His selfless and dedicated service to the people and the nation.
National Day Celebration – 17 December
17 December is celebrated as the National Day of Bhutan. On this day the historic coronation of the First King, as the Founder of Wangchuck Dynasty, was held in 1907. All over the country, people celebrate with ceremonies and cultural performances, expressing gratitude of peace and stability under the Golden Reign and guidance of successive Kings.
Bhutanese New Year
Traditionally, Bhutanese celebrate two New Years. First one is “Chunib Losar” as a Traditional Day of Offering which falls around mid of January. The second one is “Dangpa Losar” which falls around mid of February, that coincides with Tibetan and Chinese New Year. Both are celebrated with so much festivities including playing archery, dart (khuru) and other traditional games. People serve the best and the most elaborate dishes among the family members.
